There's a nice preview of Etherlords over at Gaming Age, with some screenshots and a summary of what is known about this soon to be released game. This is a bit about summoning:
Summoning is where most players will spend their time, as it allows disposable creatures to do most of the work. Summoned monsters cannot usually accept an action the moment after they are thrown into battle, and must wait out a turn (though there are exceptions). Some of the monsters’ purpose is merely to distract the enemy and will self-destruct after it launches one attack, and some will only exist to deflect possible hits against the player’s unit. During or after that waiting period, spells can be cast that will enhance the statistics of monsters for either dishing out or receiving attacks. Spells can even disable monsters from attacking certain ways, such as not allowing them to attack the player’s central unit unless their attack statistic is over 1. For the brain dead gamer, there is even an auto-combat mode that can be turned on, though in the build this editor played, all it did was make him curse the screen because it rarely actually helped. |
