There's a new review for Gothic II at GameAxis. Voice acting and the interface were considered letdowns, while the detailed world earned praise. The review awarded the game a score of 7.0; here's a snippet:
But actually PLAYING the game is where the pain comes in. The single biggest offender here is an EXTREMELY unfriendly and primitive interface that seems to have learned nothing from the RPGs of the past and falls back on several conventions which are no longer acceptable. The all important inventory management is something that seasoned RPGers will be complaining about most since it’s very unintuitive and does NOT allow you to sort and organize your items in any way. This makes for a lot of painful screen navigation trying to track down use items you require in order to survive or advance. Couple that with the fact that there is no “hot key” feature to have a select few items instantly available to use at the touch of a key, and you begin to understand how inconvenient the system is.
