has rated the following games:
|
Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: 9/10 points |
Non-linear, deep character creation and backgrounds, compelling story, marvelous cut-scenes, orchestral music, and perhaps the most original CRPG theme of all time. This is a must-play game, right up there with Fallout and Wasteland as "best ever." Minor gripes: slightly dated graphics (you get used to them fast), limited weapon/item selection (though maybe I was spoiled by Diablo at the time.) |
Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 9/10 points |
One of the most anticipated games ever, heir to the Wasteland legend. Although marred by technical problems at launch (infuriatingly slow save/load times, bugs galore), the game /design/ is close to perfect. Story, "talking heads," voice acting (by major stars), post-apocalyptic theme, good ol' turn-based combat, and glorious artwork. |
Fallout 2: 8/10 points |
Much larger than the original Fallout, improved interface and worked-out kinks, but an overuse of pop-culture references, a less compelling story (a particularly lackluster endgame), and the disappointing dearth of major voice talent keep this from besting its predecessor. Still, it's Fallout+, with more nonlinear fun. Definitely worth having, and still heads and shoulders above much of the stuff out there. |
Wasteland: 10/10 points |
No game is perfect, but this one comes as close as possible. I was re-playing this game well into the mid-nineties. It shaped a generation of role-players and spawned the Fallout franchise. A literal remake of Wasteland with updated graphics and sound would be a best-seller.
