Marty from Game Club Central dropped us a note about their review of Sid Meier's 'Pirates!'. Rating: 9/10.
In 1987 Sid Meier released a game for the Commodore 64 in which you started off with a ship, pick up a questionable crew from some dirty tavern and sail the Caribbean as a privateer or pirate. This game, designed by a little known developer by the name of Sid Meier, was called Pirates! and is widely regarded as one of the classic computer games of all time. Firaxis has taken the old game, changed the name slightly, tweaked the gameplay a little, updated the sound from bloops and the graphics from the original four colors, and released it to for the delectation of all gamers young and old. Let’s get one thing out of the way first. Sid Meier’s Pirates! is not a pirate simulator. The pirates are movie pirates more home in an Errol Flynn movie than a historical pirate ship and no one dies. It is an extremely addictive game that lends itself to several different styles of play.
