GamerGod looks at the problem of out-leveling friends in MMOs and the potential solution offered in Vanguard:Out-leveling friends in massively multiplayer online games has long been a big issue to many players. The fact is that there are many variables to people’s available playtime. This means that certain players have more time than their friends on any given day to devote to the game. Thus, people who you grouped with one weekend can easily be beyond your level range, prohibiting you from grouping with them the next weekend. This can often present an enormous problem to groups of friends or relatives wanting to enjoy the game together.
Some MMO’s have attempted to provide solutions to this issue in some rather cumbersome ways. There are methods like mentoring systems that allow a higher level player to reduce their effective level to match the lower level player. Other systems provide a means of elevating the lower level player to temporarily match the abilities of the higher level character. In both of these cases, the fix is only temporary and still presents other issues that can inhibit game play. Read it here. |
