The FOK! article on 3D People's 'Kult: Heretic Kingdoms' reported yesterday is also available in English. Here's one of the exchanges with Peter Nagy from 3D People and Richard Boon from design consultants iHobo:2. Where did you get your inspiration for Kult: Heretic Kingdoms?
Peter: 3D People was created by professional artists and programmers who wanted to work in video games. As a first project, we had to balance our personal desires with a number of factors, including the scope of the project and its commercial potential. We decided upon an RPG because these games are our favourite style of game, but also because RPGs have a large following of dedicated fans throughout the world. Also, this genre suited the technology we intended to use.
In terms of the game settings and characters, we wanted something that felt like a classic fantasy world but wasn’t constructed of the usual elements. So we created races like the Taymurians, who are wolf people, to give the game a different feel. For inspiration, we just used our imaginations, and tried to create characters and locations that would be fun to look at.
Richard: 3D People had a pretty solid story before ihobo came aboard; we changed the central plot, and added a significant chunk of backstory to give depth to the setting, … drawing inspiration from the designs that 3D People had created. The decision to base the theme of the game around religion came from ihobo MD Chris, who scripted the game and took the lead design role for ihobo. He likes presenting players with unusual takes on familiar subjects in his games. Read it here. |
