An interview with David Dougher, lead programmer on Honourbound's upcoming MMORPG, has been posted at Deollyn website. Here's an excerpt:
AH:How do u think that Adellion will differ themselves of the other MMORPGS?
DD:Let me start here. Adellion is a fantasy world, in the sense that it doesn't exist. But it doesn't have the elves dwarfs, trolls and magic of other fantasy games.
The world of Adellion is much more of a true medieval setting than other games and the skills are much more of a necessity than in other games. The cultures of Adellion do not exist - but they could have existed, and that is key.
Most of the current games have characters standing around and making hundreds of arrowheads, or loaves of bread or armor like a old style Ford motor assembly line. People in Adellion will be true craftspeople. They will have outstanding successes and dismal failures in making things. Their skill will improve over time - not just from setting up a macro to do the same mindless task over 50,000 times.
This is a role-playing environment in the sense of the older MUD's. Adellion is not geared towards war or conquest, although that is possible. It is not intended to be a "war-game" as such. War is a possibility in the real world and it is a possiblity in Adellion, but so is politics, and compromise and trade.
Endless war is not the focus.
Adellion will distinguish itself by the depth of its immersiveness and the feeling you get that says, "This place could have existed!" It won't be highly praised by the crowd that feels that game immersiveness is measured in how fast you can kill three opponents
I'll stop now - my soapbox is getting so high that I'm getting a nosebleed. | Source: RPGVault |
