Kudos to Nora for pointing us to this one: AVault has done a review of Wizardry 8 today. Their final rating is 4/5 stars, noting that the sound in Wiz8 is nearly perfect (I have to agree). Here are their final remarks:

Wizardry 8 successfully overcomes any doubts anyone may still harbor over its severely late release. Even the most jaded fans of the series should be delighted with the enormous strides in quality Sir-Tech took with this title. Fans of the old SSI Gold Box games should run, not walk, to their nearest software store and grab Wizardry 8 as soon as possible. The stat-based gameplay and heavy doses of tactical combat will surely satisfy any hardcore RPG player from that bygone era. In addition, the fantastic design, interesting locales, and incredible scope should satisfy anyone on the lookout for a quality title with a metric ton of depth to boot. Wizardry 8 is a definite contender for RPG of the year honors, and deservingly so.
