Gamespy now has the third installment of their Etherords Dev. Diary online. It discusses the trials the team endured while dealing with the gameplay troubles of their early 'autumn' version:
Everyone whom I watched playing the game couldn't wait to skip the tiresome "strategic" part, and at last fight someone just for fun. This frightened me because you didn't really have a strong motivation to fight, and you no longer had any incentive to explore the entire mission map. I can't say I was very much surprised, but anyway it was a grave disappointment for all of us. We spent much time discussing the resource management gameplay, sketching, modeling, and texturing numerous buildings for it, etc… We all felt like we would lose a lot if we had to give up the idea -- after all, it was one of the basic concepts of the project! |
