The next installment of the Etherlord Designer Diary (now number 4) can be found at Gamespy today. It deals with the new economical system of the game...:
We decided that spells should be present on the map in the form of "shops." In shops you could acquire the knowledge of spells, while to be able to cast them in battles you needed to buy ingredients that we named "runes" in other kind of shops. Shops had different levels, and, accordingly, different sets of available spells. Some would mainly give you creatures, and some had a better stock of enchantments and other effects. You were no longer forced to return to your castle every time you needed a new spell. You also didn't have to spend a lot of time building factories and researching spells. You could find necessary spells everywhere on the map, and your main task was now to gain control over new shops and resources. |
