GameSpy has an article titled Richard and Robert Garriott: What's Ahead for Massively Multiplayer - part history, part overview of their DICE presentation and part interview:GameSpy: Let's throw that question over to Richard. Gone are the days where one guy can make a game in six weeks. From a creative standpoint, is that a loss for the industry?
Richard: Well, the benefit is, no one person clearly can accomplish what we now do with games. From audio and visual and even the sheer number of features we put into these games, that's the benefit of these large teams. But the cost is, if you think about, say, a movie -- which has 50 to 100 people on it only making 90 minutes of content -- that's about the limit, the number of people who can be involved but the director can still have a semblance of control to where [the finished product] is pretty much what they envisioned. |
