GameMethod has interviewed 'Call of Cthulhu' Producer and Designer, Chris Gray. Here's an excerpt:GM: While many will argue that Lovecraft’s works have been used as inspiration for a variety of games, this is the first title to directly use one of his works. As developers how did you address the difficulties of bringing such a wrought and eerie atmosphere to gamers?
CG: We have drawn inspiration predominantly from “The Shadow over Innsmouth,” with the town and its history featuring heavily in the game. However, aside from specific sections that fans will remember from the literature, the story of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is largely our own creation. In order to capture the flavor of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos we did have to immerse ourselves in it. By working with Chaosium (creators of the pen-and-paper Call of Cthulhu products) we had access to stories and modules from the expanded Cthulhu Mythos to draw much of the character and flavor and many elements of these appear in part within the game. |
