FileFront has posted one of their Comparative Previews for 'World of Warcraft', where they compare WoW to competitor's such as EverQuest:Skepticism has become second nature to online gamers in the past 3 years after hoards of gaming companies have all tried to discover the “holy grail” of gaming: MMORPGs. Far too often it has been profit and unrealistic deadlines that have driven these companies to release games that lack creativity, depth, or just plain fun. Flops such as Earth and Beyond, Eve Online, and Asheron’s Call 2 are perfect examples of what could be considered lacking in the kindest of terms. An MMRPG should combine adventure, strategy, risk, community, and economy into a synergy that keeps us glued to our seats despite a growling stomach or nagging girlfriend. It is no surprise so many fail; creating a massively multiplayer game is an enormous endeavor that requires years of development and funding. EverQuest is one such game that managed to make the cut in gamers’ views, consuming hardcore gamers’ sunshine for months, if not years. |
