Yahoo! Games Domain has posted an interview with Troika's Leonard Boyarsky about Vampire: Bloodlines :GD: Tell us about the character advancement system. Will it be familiar to players of the White Wolf pen-and-paper games? How have you made developing combat skill stats work with first-person combat?
LB: We followed the White Wolf rules as closely as possible in this regard. So, as per their rules, the player is given points to spend in each of their attribute and ability categories, as well as points to spend on their disciplines. And, of course, as the game progresses players are given more experience points for completing quests to further develop their character as they wish.
We chose to have skills and stats affect things that are easily understood by the player. For instance, a player's firearm skill adjusts not only the speed at which their firing spread focuses, but also their proficiency with weapons. The higher the proficiency with a weapon, the more damage players do. Also, we move to a third-person camera when switching to melee/unarmed combat. There's also the first of a 5-part video walkthrough series available from the same page, weighing in at 95Mb. |
