A great RPG with a great Story

A good game, somel enghts in the story and gameplay though.

DarkFencer has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from DarkFencer)

I have played the majority of CRPG's over the past 15 years (and many older ones), but there are none I have thought better then Betrayal at Krondor. The game has it all. It gives an incredible story, a strong combat system, a full 3D world, a rousing musical score, and strong graphics (for its time). Playing this game will inevitably (as it did with me) make you want to read Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar novels just to continue the story. The game is now freely available online. The only challenge is getting the DOS game to work on today's advanced Windows PCs, but well worth the trouble.

HiddenX has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from HiddenX)

very good story - good gameplay - play this one !

Brassi has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Brassi)

This game is still good and I still play every now and then. A little to linear, and I hate when I don't have a say with whos in my party, or building someone up and they leave. You also have no say over name, class, or any sort of character creation

this was truly an awesome game... great fun in the olden days! (man was that a long time ago)

A great game.

sctvorp has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from sctvorp)

It was a great game, with a great storyline. It was a bit too hard at times, but the characters are unforgettable. I cant rate it too high because i was young when i played it, and i dont think it is as good as Torment, Fallout, and Daggerfall.

Incindium has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Incindium)

One of my favorite RPG's of all time and one of the few that I actually completly finished. This game had a great plot and excellent gameplay for it's time. One of the few games where playing it was like reading a good book.

SergioCQH has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from SergioCQH)

This game was my first RPG love. A well penned story, a grand setting, and charming characters were its strengths. No RPG I have played since has surpassed it in grandeur and pure STYLE.

Timbo has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Timbo)

This was a great game, with a really large world and engaging storyline. Some quirky combat issues and very linear nature keep it at a 8 instead of a 9 or 10.

connerly has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from connerly)

Dammit, why can't they make games like these anymore?!??!

A good story, but it goes a but pissed at the end.

Calis has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Calis)

This game was an amazing release for its time. It featured a full 3D world, lots of characters from the Riftwar novels, and a well-written plot. My main complaint about this game, however, is that it's too combat-intensive, and the combat is too difficult. Maybe I just suck, but I had a lot of trouble with some of the combat sequences in the game. Still, this game is a classic and should be present in every RPG gamer's collection.

Soulman has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Soulman)

Classic game with a good chapter-based story and plenty of fun exploration.

Great story!

olaf has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from olaf)

Another overrated game. Very linear, and pre-fab characters.

ender has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from ender)

Solid RPG, with story by the great Reymond Feist, this game has intrigue, action, and sadly a stale engine (yes, even for it's time).

HanoverF has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from HanoverF)

Great story, horrid game system almost kills it.

Threetreys has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Threetreys)

Great story and amazing 3-D graphics (well, at least back then). But what I really loved was the combat system which was the best of any CRPG at that time. This game set the standard for years to come.

I didn't want to like this game. I really didn't. But every bit of it was very well done. I can still hear the music. I can still rember how plot turns affected me. This was a classy gae.

FeistFan has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from FeistFan)

BaK really brought out the majesty of Feist's Midkemia in a way that BG could not do with Faerun. Never before and never since has a computer game brought such a vivid and real world with it.

I cant say i liked the combat system, to much hack n slash for me.

RiverRat has rated 3/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from RiverRat)

I really never could get into this game. I bought it when it first came out, played it for about 10 hours, then completely forgot about it. It just wasn't enough to draw my attention away from the latest Ultima or Might and Magic games. A year or two later, I gave it another try - same result. I just couldn't get hooked on it.

Divine has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Divine)

One of the best games I ever played. This is a true RPG. It has enormous map for an old MS-DOS game. It arrested me for a couple months in 2000 and made me to put aside Warcraft and Settlers altogether with many 3D games.

Rasmus Larsen has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Rasmus Larsen)

I sometimes look back at this game, and I weep a single tear. It was so good. And it still remains in my thought as the best game I ever played. A huge world with a beautiful story. Highly exciting and fast paced battles. Beautiful graphics that are more realistic than quite a few modern graphics. All these factors combine into an unique game that is a must for everyone of any age, sex and religion. :)

wsutton2 has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from wsutton2)

Very good storyline. I thought the graphics and gameplay were very good for their time. The bestiary was kind of limited though. Fought way too many humans and giant spiders. Ate too much rotten food, also.

Hedley has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Hedley)

Had some very nice aspects, but some bad too

Shyguy has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Shyguy)

I am an RPG addict and you'd think I'd love this game. Well, I didn't. I never felt involved in the story. I never felt like "I" was on the quest. I was just controlling characters on a linear path, in a somewhat dull world, with way too much repetitive combat. Oh, well. My loss.

Wizzban3 has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Wizzban3)

Betrayl at Krondor was a great RPG. Although the GFX weren t the best the story was very long and quite interesting. If they put in more subquests it would be even more fun. All in all the game is a fine piece of work.

Zakhal has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Zakhal)

Gabboflabbo has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Gabboflabbo)

An amazing game. This game took me into a world that felt alive, and at the time had great graphics. The music was also superb. The only downside was that you couldn't create your own characters with unique stats, however this added to the plot immensely.

mathias has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from mathias)

I really tried to like it. I downloaded it when sierra gave it a way for free and really enjoyed it at the beginning, but the strange combination of linearity and non-linearity didn't work for me. The changing characters unpredictably just added to this.

puma has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from puma)

One of the best CRPGs ever, but not without flaws (some rare crashes - I had to restart after I got stuck in chapter 4). However, story is great, magic & combat system, resting, items - couldn't be better. Only it needs much DOS memory, so it is impossible to run it on Windows. I had to use my older PC486 2-3 years ago to be able to play. It was worth it, I even regret I disposed of that computer last year as I will never be able to play again :-(( If you liked the chests, I extracted some of the puzzles http://www.puchal.prv.pl/wlocks.htm Send me e-mail if you have any comments about that or you can make tips for other puzzles.

Got this as a free download from their site. Man, never had a happier download :) The plot is up there with the best, and i was so hooked into the story i didnt even mind the funny gfx and weird combats. As far as i can say, i WAS in Krondor, fighting side by side with the party and going into weird and wonderfull quests around the country...

Simply Put. If you've never played an RPG in your entire life, BUY or GET YOUR HANDS on this game. You will never look at your computer in the same way again. I've played from start to finish three times, hundreds of hours, and I will probably do it once more. Everything is included here. Return to Krondor was great too, but too short, I beat it in like 4 days. I WOULD LOVE A 4th. DONT BUY BETRAYAL AT ANTARA! IT SUCKS.

The best CRPG I've played. Sure, newer games are more fancy, etc.. but the Story is the key here. It's more of an adventure game with roleplaying than pure RPG.

Navaros has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Navaros)

this is the best RPG game ever made by far. Baldur's Gate 2 is horse crap when compared to Betrayal at Krondor. so is everything else. Betrayal at Krondor should be #1 on EVERY LIST in the Universe of best RPGs ever anything less is a tragic Atrocity and gross mis-carriage of justice Betrayal at Krondor is simply perfect in every single way.

Kalten has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Kalten)

The strength of the feeling of being part of the story of an RPG is a trade-off on the volume of randomness within the game. Whilst many like the ability to generate their own character with attributes of their own choosing (this is half the fun), whilst this also brings a level of flexibility and possibilities, the result is a character with no.....character - no history. You don't know anything about that character except that which is randomly generated and assigned. There is very little depth to that character. This is where Betrayal at Krondor differs to most RPGs. This story telling RPG has all its characters, monsters and landscape completely defined from the start and whilst there is no room for creating your character, you get a complete feel for the character's personality throughout the game as you do with all the people and many enemies that you meet on the way. Don't make the mistake into thinking that this means that the world is small - not only is it large, but many areas, because the enemies have been carefully created and placed, it is not just some random combat where the only goal is to kill for experience and possibly the drop. Many combats result in moving the story along. This is how RPGs should be made.

I might have rated this one higher, had I picked this game up all those years ago. No, it's not about production value. But the writing quality makes me cringe. Put it side by side with PS:T, and you'll know what I mean. At any rate, credit where credit is due. The segmented story into chapters is also copied in many later releases. Betrayal at Krondor broke new ground in the story department when it first came out. It's strange that a collaboration with well-known fantasy writer couldn't produce better quality writing than amateur effort (i.e. PS:T).

There was a time when RPGs where commanded by classic Dungeon & Dragons themes. But one of them managed to set aside and deliver a world that felt both alive and magical, yet old and decadent. It had it all: strong story -politic included-, characters for whom you would really care, a battle system where the ground and strategic position matter, a beatiful and well thought interface, lot of terrain to cover, some of them with an "eerie" feeling, a great musical theme and even mini-games, like the riddles to open chests scattered around the world. Sadly enough, the game suffered of poor sells and hence, never reached the 'mainstream' RPGers. If you can stomach the now updated graphics, give it a try.

Only ranked 8 because of the 1993 technology. This game was way ahead of its' time. One of the first totally open RPGs that included a good combat system. It has both combat and adventure magic. Lots of side quests. Betrayal at Krondor laid the groundwork for the Might and Magic series and then the Elder Scrolls. Fun Stuff

Great Adventure-RPG. Good story and story elements. Very real to the books, one of (if not the) first RPG to use flightsim graphics engine.
