In a departure from the freewheeling nature of MMOs like World of Warcraft, story sets the basic direction for the game, more like what you expect from a single-player RPG. Stories are about characters, and in this case that translates to the four player classes that will be available at launch being the four main characters in the plotline. So, no matter how many of any given one you see, each is playing out the script for their class.

True, it's a bit confining, but the adventurers do cover the traditional mix for a party. There is the berserker who epitomizes the classic MMORPG tank class: a heavily armored, hard to bring down, frontline melee fighter. The Dragon Knight fills the damage dealer role in the party, giving up a little of the armor protection in exchange for more potent attacks. Of course there has to be a spell-casting specialist and the Elementalist handles that spot comprehensively, performing the healing chores and attacking foes with spells from the four elemental magics. Filling out the last spot is the ranger-like Valkyrie. She specializes in archery and is your primary ranged attacker.
