HomeLan has published an interview with client programmer Wes Bigelow about his work on this upcoming MMORPG. Here's a little something from that:
HomeLAN - What is your specific background in computer programming?

Wes Bigelow - I started becoming obsessed with the idea of game programming around 1996. The only problem was that I had no idea what computer programming really was. So I would gobble up as much technical information as I could from sources like Next Generation magazine and John Carmack's .plan file. I decided to go to college and learned the basics of programming my first two years, and after that I spent more time learning specifically about game and graphics programming, which sadly, my college wasn't able to teach me much about. I did end up graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, which shows to your employer that you have a certain level of general programming/math knowledge and can commit to a project for a long period of time.
