Electric Playground and Games Domain both have new previews of Earth & Beyond up on their sites. Here's a bit from the first one:
Earth & Beyond, scheduled to "launch" in August '02, is Westwood's own massively-multiplayer online role-playing game. It's geared not to casting spells and killing orcs, but to stellar exploration, spaceship combat and cosmic profiteering on the high warp-lanes of a huge online galaxy meant to span a game-life of several terrestrial years (complete with normal dynamic changes, cataclysmic "natural" disasters, and good old-fashioned server-side meddling). Westwood recently invited a few handfuls of gaming press to their Space Camp event in Las Vegas, where they got a hefty and informative day's-worth of exposure to the E&B running beta, as well as intense Q&A with the designers (including Westwood co-founder Louis Castle, executive producer Craig Alexander, producers Rade Stojsavljeveic and Eric Wang, and Academy-Award-winning design director Doug Chiang of Star Wars Episode I/II fame). |
