RPGVault collected some forum tidbits from their Wizardy 8 forums. This is what Linda Currie, Designer, had to say:

on the release date and graphics card: Can't add any news about the release date at this time but there is progress. An 8 MB video card is the minumum you need. Running it in software mode (which is possible as it was part of the Surrender engine) is possible but I wouldn't expect too much from it... your processor would need to be a workhorse and chances are if you have that, you have a 3D card. Sorry to not be more helpful.

load times and number of CDs: What you're thinking of in terms of a prompt before loading is somewhat similar. Wizardry 8 is on 3 CDs but all the necessary data is on one CD so you do not need to change CDs while playing. You will also have the option to do a larger install and have all the level data on the drive, vs. CD to eliminate CD access delays. I don't want to leave you with the impression that loading times are horrendous as they are not (we did do quite a bit of work to optimize it at the end of our test cycle), but it is still a load. Many of us who worked on Wiz 8 get ticked off with other games where we "accidently" step into a load point, even if that load point is lightning fast and hence the prompt.
