The last Eve Online Dev Diary by Mike "Campion" Wallis is online now at Games Domain. Here's an excerpt:
Over the past two months, we have been adding a number of new features. A major addition has been the much asked for Autopilot. No more manually flying from one part of the universe to the other - simply set your destination and engage the autopilot. Your ship will now align its heading, perform warps, and conduct jumps with ease, making those long, lucrative trade routes more appealing.
Other additions include training grounds for newbies (areas just outside the starting stations where players can go to hone their combat skills), camp spawns, market interface improvements, and a huge update to the in-game universe map. Some players were having trouble understanding the 3D map, so we implemented a "flatten" feature, which squishes it down to 2D. Additional map improvements include a new, streamlined interface, the ability to see which systems have player activity and how much (larger dots indicate more players), where combat is taking place, and where pod-deaths are happening (allowing wary players to avoid those systems, since pod-deaths are usually caused by player-killer attacks). |
