WarCry has an editorial on Project Entropia and the use of real-world cash in MMOs:Project Entropia is gaming’s future today. But let’s be upfront. This is not going to be a review with numbers and OMG GRAPHICS and OMG STORY and all that other rubbish. I may throw in some notes about my experiences, but nothing here is going to wind up on a box next to “9.5! –IGN.” MindArk says they have 300,000 registered accounts, which puts it up there in the top tier if even a percentage of those are active accounts. Not that “active” means anything when talking about PE, since I may not play for a year and a half, then log on to buy an island and hand them twenty-six grand. By all accounts, it is not a fantastic game. But someone is willing to sink tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars into property in it, not just to have the uberest kit or the shiniest sword, but as a vehicle of investment. That intrigues me. |
