AllRPG has conducted an interview with Codemasters' Peter Tyson about his company's upcoming MMORPG Dragon Empires.

Here's a bit about combat:
ALLRPG: How does the battle system work, and does it happen to have any unique features to it?

Peter: We have two types of big battles. First is the battle for ownership of a city. These occur once every political cycle (about a week) for those cities that have impressed the dragons the least. The dragon contacts a clan who wants to challenge for the city and a time is set for the battle. The defenders and the attackers then battle it out in the streets of the city for ownership. We decided to run city battles this way so that everyone has a fair chance of a good fight and we don’t get players dawn raiding each other to capture cities. That style of game play only rewards the most hard-core and takes away fun for the rest of us.

The second style of battle is what we have termed the ‘Blood Circus’. These are spontaneous matches which clans or groups can join and in which they battle other clans or groups. This is one of the ways to impress the dragons and is also a great way to get into a quick and fun fight. Once you’ve registered your interest in the fight you are taken to a special arena where you must sport for the dragon’s amusement. This style of battle is also for players who like a fight but want a more controlled environment than the wider PvP fight that goes on in the wilderness between bounty hunters and outlaws.
