UGO has reviewed Troika's Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil. It's a fairly positive article, even liking the interface which has been crtiticised by others although they note some minor bugs and in particular comment on the lack of multiplayer. The final score is 'B' and here's a clip on graphics:Graphically speaking, this is the next step for isometric RPGs, save for going full 3D. Black Isle Studios fans have been waiting for this kind of visual goodness in a D&D RPG for a long time. Troika makes use of 3D character models interacting in beautiful 2D highly detailed environments that are more colorful and alive than those we are accustomed to. The 3D models of your party members and enemies reflect what is on their inventory paper doll in real-time, including different types of armor, weapons, and flowing cloaks, some complete with emblems. Seeing my ranger with bow in hand, looking about with his green cloak blowing in the wind, made me hungry to find some more gear just to see how badass I could make him. This was just five minutes into the game. 15 minutes later, I found myself up against some monstrous frogs, one of which decided to use a grapple attack to swallow my dwarf. Screenshots don't do this game justice, and Troika shows a way with animation that was sorely missed from Arcanum. |
