GamesDomain has posted part 2 of a report about their visit to the Artifact Entertainment offices, where Horizons is currently under development. Here's a tiny snip:
Perhaps most impressive of all, however, is the open-ended vision of the game as seen by the designers. Bowman casually boasts that there will never be a Horizons 2... because there won't need to be. The underlying architecture of the game has been created with an eye toward server-side tweaks and continual, modular upgrades that will in the future allow changes to be made to keep the game fresh, and to add new levels of gameplay. Player dwellings are, in the present mindset, not much more than storage bin/museum hybrids, but as communities form, Bowman sees the possibility to allow players to install their own community-available activities (games of skill and chance at the local tavern, anyone? Just what level of technology and craftsmanship is required to create a billiard-table, anyway?). |
