Rend's Rants: Summer Woes

It's been a while since I bothered you with my last rants, and since I feel like it again, I take the time to tell you some things not overly RPG related.

First of all, we are having a heat wave here in Austria, with temperatures up to 37 degrees Celsius (which would be special even in August, but is exceptional for June). My reaction to temendous heat is headache, and you can certainly imagine how I feel sitting either at work or in front of my computer these days. The headache is unstoppable, I could take a handful of pills and it wouldn't go away. Yuk. In addition, it's twice a day that I have to water my flowers, and even then they look like dirt in the evening. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the summer, but only in conjunction with the sea or a lake. Not in the office. Not at all.

A little bit more related to the site: the future of KPNQwest is still uncertain. Basically, the network (carrying 50% of Europe's internet traffic) could be shut down any day now, and while most providers tell their clients that they have good backup connections, I seriously doubt that. So, if you don't see me around here, don't think I am gone, I just lost connection. I will be gone the first two weeks in July, however, but you certainly won't notice it, since the team will jump in and bring you the news every few hours.

I have been playing a lot of Morrowind lately, in fact - I have played nothing but Morrowind for the last few weeks. While I think the game is amazing, it's the user made plugins that are even more fun to try out. I am currently running three self made houses, the official plugins, the "more realistic animals" plugin, one that adds sounds to taverns (a nice one, adding a lot of atmosphere) and the "less generic NPC" plugin for Seyda Neen. I haven't had so much fun with a game for a long time, and the nice thing is that I feel the fun will not go away in the forseeable future.

Rather silently, Arx Fatalis went gold last week, and we expect review copies to arrive soon. If you are a regular visitor to our site, you'll know that this game will continue the tradition of the Ultima Underworlds, and if the demo that was out this spring and the list of changes Raphael Colantonio posted here in April are an indication of what we can expect, then this game should become very popular despite the less than optimal PR so far.. We'll keep you informed about it, even with the US release date being set for September. But as far as I can tell, it will be worth the wait.

Now, it's back into a sea of sweat for me. Enjoy our site :-).
