I don't know who the reviewer at GamesRadar was, but they have revealed a very upbeat, albeit somewhat whimsical, review of Irrational's immortal classic, Freedom Force vs The Third Reich - for which GamesRadar gives Freedom Force an overall 88% scoring...
This is a game that absolutely adores its source material, and actively celebrates the cliches.
It understands that the Grand Super-Leader would emphasise e-v-e-r-y syllable when dishing out orders. It knows that blind patriotism and self-loathing go hand in hand. And it knows that supervillains are ten times funnier when they're so big you can only fit their boots on screen.
It isn't just the game that makes you smile - the wrapping is just wonderful. The hand-drawn cut-scenes are so good, you sometimes feel that the game gets in the way. It's a complete sensory bombardment - occasionally overwhelmingly.
And that's the unconventional problem Freedom Force vs the Third Reich faces. It's inspired. It's genius. It's superb. It's overflowing with creativity. It sweats funnies. It will make you laugh and giggle and gape in one breath. It's almost too much stimulation to handle.
But the real marvel of Freedom Force is that it's a true game, an emergent comedy superhero moment generator. It creates brilliant scenes on the fly, then lets you feel super and heroic in facing them.
