A Face of Mankind Q&A has been posted at PC Gameworld. Marko Dieckmann, CEO of Duplex systems, spoke about various aspects of the game:
[PC Gameworld] The primary goal is leveling or skill building or a combination?
[Marko Dieckmann] The completion of missions builds experience, based on how it was conducted. It is possible to receive negative experience if the mission was a terrible failure. Gain enough experience and you may be eligible for promotion within each of the factions’ hierarchical structure. With the promotion you get access to more funds and with that better weaponry, implants, apartments etc.
The most important aspect however, is that you have more responsibility. This means that the higher your position within any faction, the closer you are to the heart of the story. You will be able to act on intelligence, experience and even hunches to create missions for the players ranking below you (“mission splitting”). But promotion is not automatic, and players can decline if they wish.
Face of Mankind relies on the player’s own skills. Therefore, if you have great skill in first person combat games, you will be more suited to a combat related faction such as the Freedom Defence Corps. If your brain races at the sound of credits then you will be more suited to American Enterprises or The Core. There are no skill levels, skill points or other such mechanisms to ‘motivate’ the player. Certainly as your character rises through the ranks you will find items to give you certain advantages over other players, but unless you have real-life skill it will be harder to take advantage off them. |
