RPGDot Game Rating Machine

LOBO has rated the following games:

Avernum: 8/10 points

Only been playing the demo, but I know that after finishing it I would never go under an 8 anyway, maybe higher. The charactersystem and the freedom and the nice turnbased fighting is 100% my cup of tea.

Baldur's Gate: 8/10 points

Would have gotten a 9 if it werent for the lack of intriguing sidequests and the bad designdecison to put the big city Baldurs Gate in the end of the game full of not-so-fun fedex sidequests, and on top of that a boring and meanless labyrinth before the endbattle adding even more to the anticlimax. AND ON TOP OF THAT a real bad ending: no fun narrative, no fun movie, no fun nothing after the otherwise great endbattle. Besides that BG was a fantastic and imaginative epic RPG which I enjoyed much.

Baldur's Gate - Tales of the Sword Coast: 7/10 points

Good expansion giving what you expect but not much more. Some more hours of fun play with "sidequests" in the style Baldurs Gate 2 has in its maingame. That is; Bigger and cooler than the pretty dull sidequests in the original BG.

Dink Smallwood: 7/10 points

A really cool little game. Its nostalgic Zelda-like setting and gamestyle together with some NASTY humour makes it one of my more memorable playingexperiences in the adventure/RPG genre, even if I cant say that this game is THAT great gameplay-wise if you compare it to other RPG's of the same period. But with style and personality you can come pretty far, and Dink gots loads of that.

Elvira - Mistress of the Dark: 9/10 points

Giving it a 9 comes from Elvira being one of the most advanced and memorable games out on the market back in the Amiga days. It had some amount of roleplaying, a cool magic system, challenging puzzles, hard but not-so-complex fights, freedom and fantastic graphics in those days. It also had some black humour mostly comin from the fact that its based and inspired by a C-horror-comedy-movie (say any other RPG that is based on anything as weird as that! =0) which made it appealing in a strange way. I really liked this game even though I was a to bad RPG/adventure player in those days to even come close to finishing it.

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 10/10 points

The first, and still the best together with Fallout 2, real ROLE-playing game I played on the PC. In other words a game that gave me a fantastic oppurtunity to live out MY idea of how to play the game and how to develope a unique cgaracter whose characteristics really changes the game for each time I play. That, together with the best ending ever in a computergame and a COOL world and a lot more, made this game totally unforgettable.

Fallout 2: 10/10 points

Ill repeat what I said about Fallout 1: *The second (Fallout being the first =0), and still the best together with Fallout 1, real ROLE-playing game I played on the PC. In other words a game that gave me a fantastic oppurtunity to live out MY idea of how to play the game and how to develope a unique cgaracter whose characteristics really changes the game for each time I play. That, together with the best ending ever in a computergame and a COOL world and a lot more, made this game totally unforgettable.* On top on the above which goes for both games, Fallout 2 was even more diverce, deep, and complex that Fallout 1, in many aspects making it a better game and earning more replays from me than Fallout 1 did. BUT Fallout 1 was perfect in its own way and in some respects outdone Fallout 2: for example much cooler ending and more than the double amount of talking heads in a world half as big as in "2" making the world more close and personal. All in all, they still are my 2 favourite games, even after playing both Badlurs Gate 1 and 2 which are GREAT games but doesnt even come close to Fallouts geniousnes and divercity.

Heroes of Might & Magic: 9/10 points

Maybe a 9 is to high a score today for this classic considering that Heroes 2 was better in every single way, but when it came out I loved it as much as I later loved Heroes 2 and maybe would love Heroes 3 , expect for the fact that they killed the perfect fairytale look in the 3rd installment =( , if I someday get time to play it. A simple but addictive game. And maybe even more cute than Heroes 2. If thats good or bad is a matter of taste, but Heroes 3 and 4 is in my point of view much uglier than the two first games.

Heroes of Might & Magic 2 - Succession Wars: 10/10 points

Together with the Fallout series Heroes 2 is the most addictive gaming expereince I've had and play still today. I never got into Heroes 3 mostly bcz my friends also still plays Heroes 2 and makes maps to it. But I guess I would love the 3rd installment to. A fantastic game with a wonderful and cozy fairytale feeling to it. Playing Heroes 2 is like sitting in your rockin chair in front of an open fire and thinking about fond memories in your past. Or something like that. =)

Heroes of Might & Magic 2 - The Price of Layalty: 9/10 points

Seems that many is missing that this is the EXPANSION to "Heroes 2 - Succession Wars" and therefore rating the wrong game. This expansion is great, and added many today classic elements to a already great game, but it aint BETTER than the original game itself as the ratings shows. =)

Icewind Dale: 8/10 points

IWD consists 99% of battles in Baldurs Gate style, but much more balanced and intresting ones than in BG itself making it the ultimate strategy game (its more a strategy game with a story and RPG character developement than an real RPG)for RPG'ers. At least for me.Cant wait to play IWD 2!

Icewind Dale - Heart of Winter: 8/10 points

Opposite to most magazine reviews i thought Heart of winter had a better told story which kept my interest better than in the original and in other aspects it was as good as the original. Short but good!

Icewind Dale - Heart of Winter: Trials of the Luremaster: 8/10 points

As good as the Heart of Winter expansion giving even more playing time to one the best strategy games ever! Ok,ok,its a RPG also.=0)

Septerra Core: 5/10 points

Linear gameplay (not supported by good enough story to justify the linearity), weak controls and a strange stiff feeling through the whole gameplay which I cant put my finger on, made it a "naaah, I think I'll play soemting else"-game for me. Not saying that its totally bad, but I guess I'm not into Manga-style RPG's as I've read that this is a good entry to that kind of games, and I only got bored.
