Ultima Online Interview at Markeedragon

UO Designer "Vex" was interviewed at Markeedragon about his work. A main topic of this interview was the changes in the bard class. Here's just something about that:
6.) Did you expect such a negative feedback on the Barding changes and how did this affect you personally?

Of course we expected negative feedback about the bard changes. Negative feedback comes hand-in-hand with most major game changes -- especially those where something has to be nerfed (for lack of a better term). People even continue to bring up things that happened years ago -- the efforts of the current development team are diminished by the hard lessons learned by those before us, the ones who actually created Ultima Online. The feedback on the boards was, in my estimation, 90% negative. The feedback sent to me as private messages on the boards, and to my email address, was a different story. Private feedback sent to me was more like 25% supportive, 50% neutral/curious, 25% negative. Some people messaged me in private saying that they didn't want to post publicly in support because they didn't want to be accused of trolling and treated horribly on the boards. Needless to say, the whole scene had the OCR department scrambling to moderate the boards. How did I feel about the whole deal? Well, I had the support of my team the entire time. My personal opinion is one of many, and even though I was chosen to spearhead the bard changes and represent EA on the community forums regarding this issue, that doesn't mean that I personally enjoyed making people unhappy.
