RPG Vault has posted part 2 of their Warlords 4 Q&A with Steve Fawkner from Infinite Interactive answering questions. Here's an excerpt:Jonric: To what extent do the units vary across races and within each race? What did you do to make sure the differences among them are meaningful, especially between similar troops of different races?
Steve Fawkner: Each race has five different troops and a hero. All of these troops have different combat values, life points, special abilities, and production times. Furthermore, as they gain levels, each troop can learn new special abilities.
It was extremely important that we make units different between races, especially the less-powerful troop types. Many games leave their basic troops quite similar, but we wanted to give players a reason to build every unit in the game. For example, the Knight's Swordsman and the Imperial Pikeman might be almost the same if not for their special abilities. Once you know that the Imperial Pikemen get First Strike (the ability to attack first whenever a new opponent enters combat), and the Swordsman gets Dragonslayer (the ability to do extra damage to Dragons), then you can begin to see how both of these troops can be useful in different situations. |
