Boo Yeah! The Wiz8 demo has been released a day early, and its only at 3dGamers (oh, and Fileplanet). Heres the news about the demo:
Welcome to the Wizardry 8 Demo.
This demo includes a small section of the beginning of Wizardry 8. It is based on the first area that new players will explore in Wizardry 8. However, to give you a few more things to try out, we've upped your characters to level 5 and given them access to items and spells that level 1 characters normally wouldn't have.
There is a price to pay for getting all these cool goodies, though: this demo is much more dangerous than the start of the real game and as such you may find it more challenging than you would the actual beginning of Wizardry 8.
The monsters you meet in the demo will be slightly different each time you play. How many monsters you get is also influenced by the luck of the draw. Since you're playing with a fairly high-powered party in the demo, this random variation in monsters is somewhat larger that what you'd see in the real game. If by chance you should be overwhelmed with a really tough battle early in the demo, don't despair. Try restarting and do things a bit differently the second time around--try exploring things in a different order, for example, or just spend more time on the beach at the beginning. You may find things easier the second time around.
You have been warned!
Hardware Configuration
It is imperative that your PC have the latest drivers installed for your video and sound cards. Wizardry has been tested on a wide assortment of platforms and performs well in all cases. If you encounter problems with the demo the first thing to do is check for updated drivers from your card manufacturer. In the majority of cases, this will correct the problem. Some web sites for commonly used equipment are listed below. If yours is not listed, please consult the documentation that came with the card.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT IN THE DEMO
Your characters start at level 5 and have access to items and spells that level 1 characters normally wouldn't have.
Your party has been chosen for you. In the real game you can create your own party, choosing from 11 races, 15 character classes, and 36 personalities. You can also import saved games from Crusaders of the Dark Savant. Depending on your alliances in those Crusaders saves, you could start in different locations. There are 4 different beginnings in Wizardry 8.
You can't change your character's voices or portraits in the demo. In the full game you can change your character's voice or portrait at any time.
Your party has a Ranger in it, and Rangers search automatically. That means you won't need to use the SEARCH button to look for items-the Ranger will do it for you.
Monsters in the demo are different, and more difficult, than what you'd meet at the start of the full game. And while you may come across 30 or so monsters in the demo, the full game features close to 600 different monsters with more than 200 unique encounter types.
The full game is quite non-linear, offering you a great deal of freedom in where you choose to go, what quests you choose to complete and when. Conversely, the demo levels will feel quite linear. There are over 30 unique levels to explore in Wizardry 8. The demo includes one.
In the full game you'll explore the vast world of Dominus, confront the dread Dark Savant, and even attempt to ascend to the Cosmic Circle. In the demo, though, you'll have the more modest goal of exploring the basement of an abandoned monastery as you make your way back to civilization.
