Thanks to Roman Gadas from Russian Buka Entertainment for sending us some Russian gamers' first impressions (quoted below) of his company's upcoming trade sim/RPG hybrid Spells of Gold.

Here we go:

    Buka Entertainment has recently performed a focus test of Jonquil Software's
    upcoming RPG Spells of Gold. The game was tested among a group of
    experienced Russian gamers, who played through the game and expressed their
    opinions on its advantages and disadvantages.
    We are pleased to say that the feedback, which we received from the
    participants of the test, was generally positive. Most of the participants
    liked the developers' idea of combining a role-playing game with elements of
    trade simulation, and well-balanced realization of this idea. Many people
    praised the huge gaming world and the non-linear storyline of the game. Some
    people liked the "painting-like" graphics of the game.
    A few criticisms concerning minor gameplay details were made, but the
    developers took the participants' remarks into account and promised to make
    all necessary changes as soon as by the end of the month, when the
    alpha-version is going to be released.

    Vilur Shakirov, Head Designer for Jonquil Software commented: " We are
    really glad that the participants of the test liked the game, which we are
    making. Their comments and suggestions are a great help to us at this stage
    of development. We promise to take everything, which the focus group has
    said today into consideration; and you will be able to see the changes in
    the game as soon as in the upcoming alpha.

    About Spells of Gold:

    "Spells of Gold" combines role-playing with trade-simulation. The player
    assumes a role of a young merchant, whose main activity is buying goods in
    one town and selling or exchanging them in another. For this purpose, he has
    got a special item - a Magic Sack of Monroke. Thanks to it, he can easily
    carry a vast amount of goods. While traveling, the merchant will often
    encounter robbers and bandits, warlocks and undead ones, tax collectors and
    envious competitors, hired assassins and wandering warriors. It is easy to
    guess, that every such meeting will hardly end peacefully. To feel sure and
    ready for any unexpected accident and adventure, the player may either
    master his fighting skills and become a Warrior, or choose the way of the
    Secret Learning and become a Magician. While traveling and trading, fighting
    and gaining experience, the main character gradually comprehends the very
    essence of the Universe and finally the whole history of the world-creation
    and the way to change it is revealed to him:
    Key features:
    · Role-playing combined with trade simulation;
    · Non-linear story allows players to replay the game with an entirely new
    perspective;
    · Huge game world inhabited by hundreds of fantasy creatures;
    · Your character is not limited in experience levels; gain as many skills
    and abilities as you wish
    · Choose your weapons and armor out of 2000 different types;
    · And of course:MAGIC: a variety of spells and potions will help your Hero
    in his journeys around the world of Spells of Gold
