This game is currently my game of choice. It has a unique game design. The character development system is probably the best I've ever seen, allowing players to choose a huge number of skill combinations. The combat system can be a little annoying at first, but after getting used to it the benefits start to shine. KS'ing and ninja looting from outside the group are impossible. When entering combat a circle goes around you, your party, and any mobs that are involved in that combat. Any player that isn't in your party will not be able to effect anything inside of your combat area. Other mobs can however "add" when you fight too close and they wander by. My only complain about the combat system is that movement is awkward, but the developers are exploring improving the movement system, plus you can get used to it. The really nice thing about Rubies of Eventide is that anyone can download the whole client for FREE from their website. All content expansions and continuous patches are aslo all FREE (wish more games did this hehe). What I do not like about Rubies of Eventide is that there just isn't enough content! There are limited areas you can go to fight for each level bracket and only a little over a dozen implemented zones. Only about 1/5 of the final game world is actually implemented though so in the months to come with more areas added the limited content problem will hopefully be alleviated. Plus, since all software for the game will always be free you won't incurr any more costs than you would have otherwise when the rest of the content is added, unlike other games that only release 1 continent on release then charge for an expansion pack for another one later. I would highly recommend everyone to at least try this game. It is $15 per month (or much cheaper if you sign up for longer chunks of time) and gives you free software, so even if you don't like it you could play for 2 months to decide and still not be out any more money than if you bought a crappy game from the store. Download the game at www.rubiesofeventide.com and give it a wirl.

The game has recently made a return and is free to play to all. The best part is the game has ALOT of depth even for its small size. It is very addictive ;)

The Good: Open class systems, anyone can learn any skill. Some are just better or worse at it. Decent crafting system. "Uber" is hard to do. Community is #1, devs and even owners play the game regularly and listen to good ideas. RP is fairly common, and a new shard (now up) and a new RP server on the way. F2P, with some server caps. $50 gets you unlimited access, and some items. No monthly costs yet. They have indicated a monthly would be in the $5 to $10 range. The Bad: Unexpected growth has cause overloaded servers. They are hard at work to solve it. Graphics are ok, but very system intensive (fix in the works). World is smallish, 6 major zones with smaller dugeon zones. about 20 min end to end running. All in all it is a small, fun, almost pencil and paper feel game. Just less sweaty geeks and Mountian Dew.

Not bad for a free MMORPG. Gfx up to par with DAOC version 1. Controls fairly good. Sometimes CTD on zoning, esp after being logged a while (like early DAOC and Horizons). Combat is a bit sluggish, with a mouse select, mouse menu, hotkey combo to get started, then one has to wait for the server to catch up.

I actualy hate seeing here comments its worth 10/10 because it is free. thats cheap. Rubies of Eventide is not the usual type of mmorpg. It was once marketed under the "old time charm" motto. It suits it. Rubies reminds me of old days spent with freinds in one dark room playing dungeons and dragons. The graphics adds to the feel too. its far from photorealistic, its like cartoonish and cute. the game system is being developed for 10 years now as the game started as a multiuser dungeon on 1994. the character development system is about the best i have ever seen in any of the big games, solo and multiplayer. you can choose form 100 classes, each is defined by set of modifiers which tell how easy or hard it is for given class to learn chosen skill - and you can learn all skill, your warrior can cast healing spells or even ressurect others while your weaponsmith can use spells to improve his performance in smithing. seven races in game, each can be anything, magical race leshy can serve as a tank if player choses so, he will never be that good as an ogre tank, but getting a leshy in plate armor is much more rewarding. as for being free... the game offers way to play without paying. thats right. but without donations the game would just vanish. the community is what makes the game awesome, the community paid for new server which was added yesterday and its nearing donation drive for a RP server (1200 USD in a week!). There had to be implemented some limits to free game so the game runs smoothly to players who pay for it to run. i preffer this game over any of the big names in mmorpg world. its definitely not for everyone, but you may find yourself unexpectedly addicted to it after while

I didnt give this game a 10/10 because its free like the rest, but because the devs actualy listen to you and change things depending on what is said. This game is currently my favorite game of all time (and ive played just about every mmog/ps2 game so far). Unlike EverQuest and its multiple clones, this game doesnt limit you, the skys the limit! If you want, your ugly "master of the sword" ogre can learn to cast spells effetiantly, your evil necromance can learn the art of healing and revival, etc. With over 100 proffesions and 7 races, this games a winner, with the best community Ive ever seen to boot! note: please this game is played by all ages from 9 to 50+, this is not the type of game for mindless cursing 14 year olds. This game actualy makes you THINK!!! we already have enough mouthers around even with violaters being banned.

Klaggor has rated 1/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Klaggor)

Free is all this game has going for it BUT there are better graphical mmorpgs out there that are free as well.

Bal has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Bal)

The Good: Character creation is exceedingly flexible. It is unlikely that you will find any two characters that are the same. They may be of the same class, but each will have its own little tweaks by the preferrences of the player behind the character. The community is a grand collection of unique personalities. Naturally you will find those that you agree with and those you don't, but all opinions are heard. Some are even acted upon. The management is part of the player base. It makes for a very close relationship between those who run the game and those that just play. The Bad: With its flexibility, you really need to create a sense of who your character really is. It hasn't been the sort of game that lends itself to character identity exclusively by race and class. Not sure this is bad, but if you aren't careful you might look at your character and wonder how it got from there to here. The Ugly: Orcs and Ogres, naturally. :p

BEST community including developers. You will not find this sort of in-game and forims support anywhere. It took me a bit of time to get used to the turn based combat but after a few weeks I loved it . It has decent graphics and the best character developement I have ever seen and it costs absolute;ly nothing to play!

This game plain out sucks. WHY? It has been taken over and offered for free, and it shows the community of coders who cant get a real job are running this, it shows it the piss poor coding all over the place, the year is 2005 and the game lags so bad one must wonder what it was like in 99...... the graphics are grainy at best of top notch machines, the gameplay is horrible, but you get what you pay for right? so expect your computer to crash often, use 100% of its resources, and connect to the net even when your not playing. all in all this game needs a dev team who will tell those in its community, who although are fulhearted and want to help, that there coding skills are just flat out piss poor and shouldnt be helping with the game in creating the worst experience one can have gaming

wow. fun, addictive, all around fn game. what i was most impressed by was the 6 races, and 100 classes! it took me hours to choose. Summon monsters, raise the undead, bring the wolves to fight for you, shoot arrows, hack slash n' cut to victory. er sumthin.

I Love Rubies of Eventide, I got frustrated with it at first because of the learning curve of learning a new game, and the combat takes some getting used to but ROE has a very nice community i found a guild to join in 2 days playing and met many cool people who are willing to help you out, and also post in the forums about bugs and what they should fix or add helps out... lots to do the only prob i have with the game is zone loading crashes which can be fixed with the patch they have.... goto the forums and check out some of the homemade videos ppl have made, the content gets way better at higher lvls alot of cool looking mobs with alot to do, the only thing i see that could be better are a few bugs which every game has and getting the herbalism and gem skill fully implemented into the game, thats about it.what can i say its free, so give it a shot u might just like it, also if you do get into it make a donation for the gentry account, it helps the devs and gms out with costs of the game and future addidtions and fixes and also gets you some items and pluses for your char also access to founders island zone.... check it out, /Brimly Smitehammer/Phoneix Server/Ancients of CTD Guild/

I am suprised that this game hasn't received more attention. Ive tried several MMORPG's but keep coming back to Rubies. It has a great community of players and there is always more to learn. Fair graphics, fairly stable game, I LOVE it.
