HomeLan Fed recently sat down with Blizzard's Rob Pardo to talk about Warcraft III. It's an interesting retrospective at Warcraft III's development and also touches some post-release issues.
Here's a bit for you:HomeLAN - Warcraft III was revealed nearly three years ago and there have been a number of gameplay changes since its announcement. Is it fair to say that this game has been the toughest Blizzard has ever developed?
Rob Pardo - At Blizzard we do what we call "iterative design," which means as the game progresses we continually play and re-design things. We cut or change the ideas that didn't work, and we add new ideas if they fit within the game. We have done this with each product we've developed - you'd be surprised to see some of the original designs for Diablo or StarCraft, for example.
HomeLAN - What specific things about Warcraft III are you particularly proud of now that it is all over?
Rob Pardo - I'm proud that we were able to go in a new direction with the game play and still be successful. Our beta testers were very responsive when it came to the new features, which they liked quite a bit. |
