EverQuest: Monthly Subscription Fee Raised

SOE's President John Smedley has written up a community letter in which he explains the reasoning behind a raise of the monthly subscription fee for 'EverQuest'. If you want to play the original 'EverQuest' (plus expansions), you will now have to pay US$ 14.99/month. There's also the usual promotional offer that lets you extend your subscription for a few months now to avoid an immediate price increase. Here's a snip from Smed's letter:

EverQuest is in its 6th year of existence and while we have continued to bring new content for everyone to enjoy, the cost of operating a top tier MMO has increased significantly during the past three years. Today I am writing to tell you all that we will be increasing the subscription rate for EverQuest effective June 12, 2005 . The new monthly subscription rate will be $14.99/month.
