RPG Planet has a preview of Earth & Beyond, and it isn't a repost of the one found at Gamespy two days ago. Here's a bit for you:
There is no player vs. player combat in Earth & Beyond and it is "unlikely for launch at the end of August." In testing so far, they "found most people don't like it" -- players preferred exploring the world to battling each other (combat effectiveness is based on character skill, not the players). Rade indicated they "want robust player vs. player combat in fringe areas that is volunteer" that ties into guilds and factions, but not until they can implement it properly. However, space monsters still abound, as "half of the things you fight are organic, other than ships." Huge, capital ships with turrets and fighters are also impressive adversaries requiring teamwork to defeat as we found out in our epic battle with mid-level characters at the Camp.
More peviews of the game can be found at MGON and Metronic, from which this excerpt is reprinted:
Each race has 2 different kinds of ships you can use. Each side has access to a warrior class vessel. But the difference between the 2 is when they either get access to use an explorer class or tradesman class vessel. Both the Progen and Jenquai get the explorer class, and the Terrans get the tradesman class. I am going to try and explain some of the advantages and disadvantages I saw while playing the game.
