Gamer's Hell has conducted an interview with Liu Yubin, the Chief Designer of Prince of Qin, a Chinese themed action RPG from Object Software and Strategy First.
Here's the 1st question and the corresponding answer:At a first glance many people might think 'Just another Diablo/Baldur's Gate clone.' What would you say to discredit that statement?
Liu Yubin: Diablo and Baldur's Gate are two of the most successful RPG models, but we never thought that making a simple carbon copy of anything from either of them would make any sense. In my opinion, to develop a good game, first of all, you have to have your own new concept and ideas. From the very beginning, we made up our mind that we would recreate the Qin dynasty, the splendor and chaos, the ugliness, the bloody wars and peaceful life…almost everything of that time. We are trying to help gamers appreciate the charm of oriental culture in ancient China. Whatever we do is to help reach this goal. We did get some illumination from Diablo and Baldur's Gate. However, Diablo and Baldur's Gate are based on the principles that are very popular in Europe and America, whilst Prince of Qin is developed according to the philosophy of the Five Elements, which was well-known in China's ancient culture. Unlike Baldur's Gate, Prince of Qin has introduced Weapon Making and Gem-Inlaying Systems and the function of Random Creation of Inventory. |
