Sometimes, when you browse the internet, you stumble across something new and cool. That happened to me when I was searching for news and files yesterday evening.

I wonder if you have ever heard about 3DNA - I haven't. Now those guys there had a cool idea: creating a 3 dimensional desktop for Windows. Basically, it is a micro-level of a 3D game - just one room. The basic room that comes with the program is a space station, but you can download an additional "villa" as well. When you start the program (or you start windows and autoload it), this 3D room sits on top of your normal desktop, and using the keys you can move around there.

This wouldn't be cool at all, would it? The trick behind the program is that it allows you to access your programs from within the program, and it allows heavy customization of the interior. For example, you could add RPGDot from your favorites to a flat screen on one of the walls of the space station, and it would not only link to RPGDot then, but also display a snapshot from our page in the space station for you (left click and hold this snapshot, and a larger version is visible - double click it and the browser will open). You can add all your favorite sites this way, and you can update the snapshot from within the program - so you will always see when a page has changed. The same way (adding a shortcut) you can launch your favorite programs in the space station, open folders, start tasks and much more.

Don't get me wrong - this is just a front end - it launches things, doesn't integrate them, but it is a cool one for sure. It is still a beta release, but so far it has been stable for me. 3DNA is free, and it will remain free because they found a clever way to integrate ads into the enviroment - they are posters on the wall. A commercial version will be available as well, without the ads.

If I got you interested in this program (a 12MB download, or a little bit less, I don't know exactly now), follow the link to 3DNA and try it out. A fast computer, a good graphics card, the latest drivers and plenty of RAM help a lot :-). And if this desktop gets popular amongst our readers, we will certainly do a special headlines page for you to get the latest headlines properly displayed in yor space station or villa...
