Rend's Rants: Upgrading RPGDot

Well, I know this sounds like a regular event for those of you who have been with us for a long time, but we will once again have to move our site to a larger server, due to the amount of traffic we are receiving. We have been on a RAQ since August, and we will move to a new box with twice as much power, four times as much RAM and even more diskspace within the next days or so. While we don't have bandwidth problems, we were short on memory for our database, and this caused some slowdown from time to time.

There will be some other changes to the site as well: first, we silently upgraded our search function, which will be way better than it is now. And we will offer a program called "friends of RPGDDot", which will offer some goodies to those helping us with regular donations. Don't fear that we change from a free to a paid site: all our content will still be free for all. But we will be able to offer more than just a thank you for those who help us with the server costs. While we won't tell what we have in mind right now, you can be sure that it will be good value and fun alike.

Downtime during the move will be not more than hours, since we don't switch to a new provider (we won't find a better one than we have now), and we will let you know before this happens.

Right now on my HD: I am still playing and enjoying Wizardry 8, and I am still lurking around on Nimue (Albion realm) as Paladin Rendelius. I am having some fun in DAoC, although I have yet to find a MMORPG that really sucks me in...
