RPG Vault had the chance to site down with Phenomic's Project leader Volker Wertich about Spellforce:
Jonric: What kinds of influences came into play as you developed the overall concept and the style of game you wanted SpellForce to be?

Volker Wertich: As we are all gamers, we have played a lot of other games in the same genre, starting from turn-based titles like Heroes of Might & Magic to MMORPGs such as EverQuest or the obvious ones like Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights and WarCraft III. All of them are great games, and inspiration can come from any source - but we really wanted to do something new and we believe that SpellForce is totally different to any other game. We believe, that we really have created a new genre - SpellForce is the first true HBRTS - Hero-Based Real-Time Strategy - ever.
Great, another acronym. You'll find the article here.
