GameSpy has written a preview of this upcoming MMORPG. It spans several pages and is quite detailed. Here's something about early gameplay:
In the early going, players will kill the small things around their hometowns, save up money to improve skills, and buy more useful equipment. After reaching level five, players can change to a more specialized class that gives them unique abilities. (There are a lot of different classes to choose from!) Dying in DaoC is not as traumatic as it is in other MMORPGs (like EverQuest or Ultima Online). At lower levels there's no loss of items, skills, stats, etc. At higher levels, players lose a bit of constitution and some experience, which can be restored by a healer (and for experience, saying a prayer at your grave -- the spot where you died). To be honest, I'm not sure how the loss of items and gold will be played out when fighting other realms. One would assume that players would be able to loot each other upon their being sent to the afterlife. (As I noted earlier, I haven't seen the practical application of PvP yet, so for now it remains a mystery). |
