GamesFirst has a mildly positive review of Final Fantasy 11. The score is 3/5 and here's an excerpt:When you create your character, you don’t have a lot of options. You can be a Hume (human, essentially), Elvann or Tarutaru of either gender, or a Mithra or Galka. While dyed-in-the-wool Final Fantasy fanatics may appreciate these options, they had little significance for me and I found it annoying to only be presented with eight options when other games offer far more. After this, you must select from one of six “standard jobs” (Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Red Mage, Black Mage, Thief) that comes with its own set of special proficiencies that are called “abilities”. For example, the Warrior has a high armor rating, but a weak magic rating. All in all I found this to be a shallow character generation scheme, but there are “extra jobs” available through quests (such as Beastmaster, which is great fun as it allows you to communicate with and command some NPC monsters) that help flesh out the character design a bit if you’re willing to go the extra mile. |
