RPGDot Game Rating Machine

[LoD] Asparouh has rated the following games:

Baldur's Gate: 6/10 points

The thing I liked most about this game is that it lets you be evil. I think being a solo-evil elf contributed the the challange and made me want to play longer than I would have normally. If you follow the normal plot-line the game can be quite boring though.

Betrayal at Krondor: 10/10 points

The best game I have ever played. The storyline was immersive. The characters were balanced and unique. The turn-based combat system was excellent. Graphics were excellent. Never played a game quite so good as Betrayal at Krondor since.

Betrayal in Antara: 3/10 points

Betrayal in Antara was a waste of money if you ask me.

Blade of Darkness: 8/10 points

I would give it an 8 mostly because unlike most games BoD actually allows you to develop real skills. Combat is not just clicking a mouse and a random number generator matched against the ai but requires real person's skill to defeat an enemy. The game feels very real in many aspects. Best and most real-feel bow and arrow system I have ever played.

Dark Age of Camelot: 6/10 points

To be fair the game has great graphics. It feels nice at first and you can get sucked into leveling your character pretty easy and there is nothing wrong with that. However there are players like me who prefer to be lone wolves and like to explore and fight alone. Unfortunaltelly for me I chose a class which sounded quite what I wanted when I picked it but turned out very unsuited for being solo- the Warden. Well, regardless I stuck with it as I didn't want to erase my month's efforts and tried to compensate with skills or strategy what my character lacked because of designers' decisions. Needless to say things were slow, very slow and my skills and experience-real not my character's had very limitted effect. I progressed so slow that I couldn't take it any more and cancelled my account. I had to spend countless hours in the same area before moving on simply because exploration of higher level areas is too risky. I couldn't PvP and what I heard from the high level wardens made me beleive that even after months of leveling and reaching higher levels I would still need to 'group' to even stand some chance. If you want a game to 'level' and 'group' in repetativelly with some vague meaningless PvP opportunity on the horizon DAoC is for you. Otherwise you can pick up a single player rpg game or wait for the release of a truely original MMORPG - not a clone.

Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 6/10 points

Looks great, feels great but the gameplay isn't there. Being only about 10 or so hours into the game my orc can pretty much kill anyone and anything including guards- you name it. Dungeons are small, quests are quite repetative and npcs have a very basic behaviour. I will put the game aside and wait for exciting player created plug-ins and mods to make things more interesting.

EverQuest: 4/10 points

Playing EQ made me feel like a resource of a huge corporation. I give it my monthly dues and it gives me a virtual world with virtual items. After a while though it just isn't enough. I want more than just some virual item with no meaning other than to help me get other virtual items. I want large battles and a world influenced by the characteristics of good and evil, in short I want PvP and EQ doesn't have it and is not suited for it.

Evil Islands: 6/10 points

This is an OK game. It has some good ideas like the creation of weapons but the dialogue is quite unsatisfactory. The main voice is 'gay' and I don't mean 'happy' either. Combat is challanging, especially in the beginning and graphics are not bad.

Gothic: 9/10 points

The interface is quite difficult to get used to, but once you do the game becomes more and more interesting. Unlike Morrowind combat is challanging and npcs are very real. The story is OK and your character has some freedom of choice. The game is certainly not perfect but I think the designers are on the right track. Looking forward to Gothic2.

Jagged Alliance: 9/10 points

Great game.

Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 3/10 points

Hate this game. Waste of money.
