Many players of the Dark and Light prelude stage, dubbed Settlers of Ganareth have been encountering a frustrating "stuck character" bug which prevents them from logging on with those characters. Apparently, some players are able to successfully log on to stuck avatars following a server restart, and some players can fix the problem with some guidance from GMs- but other players are S.O.L., as the developers have been unable to "unstick" many characters. The staff will not reboot the server for the sole purpose of freeing up stuck avatars, however; they will only do that for more widespread problems.

This bug happens to many people, we are conscious of it. For some, a reboot of the server solves the problem. For others, there are many protocols of file deletion that have been successful. About these protocols, if some people want to help listing them, you can just PM them to me and I will list them in this sticky thread, it will be easier than starting a new thread every time. But we also know that some people have their character bugged to a point nothing they have been suggested to try worked. In all cases, we deeply apologize for the consequences. The devs are working hard to fix the bug and are aware that many people experience it. For the moment, we kindly ask you to be patient, more and more bugs will be fixed every week, and you'll be able to see improvement about SoG in the next weeks. If none of the suggested solutions worked for you, then there is not much you can do about it for the moment, except keep trying and wait. Sorry :(
