Multiplayer Zone has written a review of Anarchy Online, and it's a fairly positive one with a rating of 7/10. Here's what they complain about:
Unfortunately life on Rubi-Ka is not perfect, the game lags quite badly in places especially in the middle of a big city. I mainly played this game on a 1.4GHZ GF3 with ADSL connection and still found moments annoyingly laggy. These issues are being addressed and after talking to other players in the game world I was able to glean that there have been improvements by the patches. Oh yes, the patches are another issue, the latest patch was 11MB this seems way to big really, if you are a modem player and you wish to try and advance your LVL for an hour, to suddenly get hit with a 11MB download is a git at any time. Even on ADSL I had to go and have a beer and a fag (oh no) whilst I was waiting. Tribes 2 patching system is better as they do it in smaller chunks, hopefully though as problems are corrected the amount and size of patches will diminish.
Also I found the combat to be a bit dodgy at times. Quite often when I was retreating from an attacker (not that I'm a wimp or anything oh no!) I noticed that whilst they were no where near me I was still getting hit, many times I have legged it out of a situation (also see tactical retreat) only to find I die of because I’m struck by something at the top of the hill, two miles away. |
