Two new reviews of Heroes of Might & Magic 4 have shown up: Gone Goldhas an overall rating of 87/100 and offers this conclusion:

So what’s the verdict? Heroes IV is a mixed bag as far as I’m concerned. My first few sessions with it were joyful bliss. But as time wore on, the AI concerns began to become more noticeable and somewhat troubling. Usually I play the Heroes games in 3 to 4 hour marathons, but aside from my first two nights with the game I have not felt the urge to do that. I can't quite put my finger on just why that is. It's not just the AI, I know. The gameplay can become quite repetitive, but lots of great games are repetitive. Repetitiveness has never bothered me before! It’s just that this time Heroes is not totally getting it done for me. Do I enjoy the time I spend with the game? Yes. Am I drawn to play it all the time like I used to? No.

If you are a fan of the series, it’s a tough call on whether you are going to love this rendition. Like me, you may enjoy it but struggle at times with its shortcomings. If you are new to the Heroes franchise, I do recommend Heroes IV, but I think you would be just as happy trying out Heroes III, which is priced at the bargain bin level. The tone of this review would likely change significantly if/when a patch is released. But for now, Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a fine game that falls short of greatness.
The second review has been posted at AroundCNY and is much, much shorter, with a final score of 8 and this summary:
Overall, the quality of this game is unmistakable and it’s a solid addition to the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise. It’s different enough from Heroes III that the older game may still hold a place in many hearts and it will benefit greatly from the planned patches, but it’s as fun and addictive as ever. This game is excellent and on a scale of 1-10, it scored an 8.
