Derek Handley from Tannhauser Gate, developer of Mimesis Online, has written the 4th part of his Mimesis Online developer diary for RPGVault. This one is entitled "A conscious act of creation - Part I" and deals with original ideas, creativity and inspiration...

Now, this is why most creative types avoid answering this question. The truth doesn't sound as glamorous as "My ideas come from dreams." When you have the basic idea for the game world, or the setting of your story, then the bulk of the things which go into that world are thought of because they have to be - they are created by one individual with a page in front of them, by trial and error, they come out of research. At Tannhauser Gate, one of the most popular creative processes is verbal tennis - a group discussion which thrashes out the possibilities and details.
