Derek Handley is subject of a Mimesis Online Developer Profile at RPGVault today. Here's a bit about his position with Tannhauser Gate:
Jonric: In this role, what are your main functions and responsibilities?
Derek Handley: I have a couple of people who write things for the game, and I coordinate their work - I make sure that the facts all fit, and stuff like that. So I'm a kind of an editor. I proofread most of the stuff that goes out as news, if I didn't actually write it myself - I don't proofread everything though - there aren't enough hours in the day. And I write - news, articles, background information.
I'm also responsible for creating a lot of the details - the basic idea for the gameworld and the species came from Marcin, Artur et al. - the people who founded the studio. Tomek and Marcin and the other graphics people created the look of the flora and fauna. It's been my responsibility to take that all, put names on it, give it flesh, create a more detailed history, add a species here, drop a species there. If it doesn't gel in words, I'm to blame. I also work on missions, and as such, I'll probably work closely with the game masters. |
