Games are often pigeon-holed into one genre or another. For the most part though developers usually go along with this and the design of most games usually fits neatly into a chosen category. Once in a while though a title arrives that doesn't fit into either genre comfortably and attempts to create a very different experience. SpellForce is one such game and the developers, Phenomic, have attempted to blend RPG with RTS and have created, in their own words, 'Role Playing Strategy' game (RPS). Phenomic certainly have a good pedigree too with their founder, Volker Wertich being credited as the 'mastermind' behind The Settlers series which has enjoyed much success. We had the chance to look at a preview of the game although the preview version we have has the save function disabled so it wasn't possible to progress too far into the game.
