UGO has conducted a rather lengthy interview with Blizzard Vice-President Bill Roper. He talks about various topics, including Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft - here is a small excerpt:
UGO: Now that it is out, what are you most proud of?
BR: I think that the biggest thing is that we were really able to stay true to the vision, blending and RPG and an RTS. I think that when we made the camera angle change really early on, people figured that, "Oh, now they're gonna throw in all that RPG stuff out there," but no. And really, we didn't. And I think people can really see that in the single player campaign. And can see that we really wanted to take those great elements from role-playing games and put them into a real-time strategy storyline, and make it much deeper and richer experience. Though I think there is one thing that Warcraft III does better than any of our games, including Starcraft, is how it draws you emotionally into [the plot]. I've played and seen people get angry or sad, and not just about a strategy, or that they got beaten, but with what's happening with the characters. |
